On a scale of 1-10, this is a 10 in ridiculous.

I've been voted most knowledgeable a number of times on this site...and I just can't see how that will reduce the number of concussions.
Safety Brodney Pool (cleveland browns) has likely played his last snap in the NFL...he's never gotten into a 3 point stance that I've seen. Aikman, Young and many other QB's who have suffered numerous concussions have never started in a 3 point stance. What do they recommend? Lineman in a 4-point stance (where it's harder to get both hands up properly/quick enough? Or everyone start with their hands off the ground...where you play high (and therefor your fundamentals are all wrong). Why not (instead) mandate safer helmets? Greg Easterbrook of TMQ (ESPN) has pointed out the kinds of helmets needed...but most NFL players won't wear them because of how they look. Mandating safer helmets is a far easier and (more importantly) simpler way of ensuring player safety than asking players to change the basic fundamentals of football. |
